HUMAN RIGHTS

Syllabus requirements:
Learn about:
  • future challenges for Australia in relation to:
  1. human rights
  2. reconciliation





  • strategies to address the challenge

Learn to:
  • identify human rights agreements
  • describe responses of individuals, groups and governments in Australia to these challenges
  • compare the responses of Australia and other nations to the challenges
  • recognise implications for the international community

  • suggest strategies Australia can adopt to address the challenges better in the future

Human Rights Issues

  1. Access the United Nations Human Rights website.  Click on What are human rights? Write a definition in your own words and then spend 10 minutes exploring the site further.
  2. Access the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  Using this website, rank (in order of importance) what you consider to be the five most important human rights.  Explain why you think these are the most important.
  3. Access the Amnesty International website.   Describe human rights issues that are currently occurring in  (a) Australia and (b) elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific.
  4. Predict the human rights issues that will affect Australia’s future the most.  Explain.
  5. Search for “human rights” articles in smh and note Australia’s responses to the challenges, compare to the rest of the world and the implication on a global scale.
